Residents of Delhi had no respite from the cold weather conditions with chilly easterly winds blowing on Sunday even as the sky remained partly cloudy and hazy during the day.
The people did miss the sun on Sunday as they had expected some respite from the shivers as the city woke up to the minimum temperature of 6 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season’s average, the weatherman said.
There was shallow fog in the morning hours, while relative humidity pegged high between 97- 83 per cent here.
With the sun hiding behind the clouds, the weather was not very clear, while the maximum temperature could only climb to 18.6 degrees Celsius, which was three points below the season’s average.
The mercury again witnessed a dip towards evening making people feel the chill.
The weather is a little unpredictable these days as on Saturday the maximum temperature settled at 24 degrees Celsius, while early morning a day ago witnessed mercury pegging below 5 degrees Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to shallow fog for Monday morning, with minimum and maximum temperatures settling around 7 and 22 degrees Celsius respectively.
Meanwhile, the air quality in the city remained in the very poor zone on Sunday, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) said.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) value here was recorded at 365, CPCB added.
The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) has forecast, “The predominant surface wind is likely to be coming from South directions in Delhi with wind speed 08-10 kmph, mainly clear sky and shallow to moderate fog in the morning on 29.01.2024. “
